Harvester ant colony (Messor barbarus)
The Messor barbarus ant, also called the harvesting ant.They gather (grass) seeds and cereals. They chew the seeds to pieces and combine them with their saliva. This way they harvest the seeds to the so called ant bread, that serves as nutrition. The intelligence of these colonies is extraordinary. Our favorite ant species for a reason... ;-)
